Clinical Hypnotherapy & NLP
PETER WESSON Consultant Hypnotherapist, UKCP & European Registered 25 Years of Confidential Hypnotherapy; Advanced Clinical Hypnosis, EMDR & NLP Telephone: 0161 763 1660 Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state of altered conscious awareness. It is experienced as a feeling of deep relaxation; a state in which physical and mental tensions are progressively reduced and rapid therapeutic changes can occur.
Contrary to popular belief, there is no compulsion or domination by the therapist over the patient, and as hynosis is a completely natural state, there are no unpleasant side-effects or inherent dangers. Hypnosis, in the hands of a qualified and experienced psychotherapist, can be used safely, even with children, expectant mothers, and in cases of illness and disease, where it can play a vital part in helping to expel negative feelings of helplessness, control pain and stimulate the body's natural resistance.
In
Clinical Hypnotherapy - therapy using hypnosis to hasten the process of desired change, resolving symptoms by treating their
causes - the patient will usually enter the hypnotic state by following the therapist's verbal suggestions of increasing relaxation, letting go of tension throughout the body. Just as physical tension accompanies mental stress, so conversely the relaxing of bodily tension produces a state of inner calmness that is itself therapeutic in overcoming feelings of anxiety. During the state of hypnosis, information and curative suggestions may be offered to the inner part of the mind, the part that controls our habits and automatic behaviour, without interference from out conscious thoughts. It is important to understand that the patient remains aware throughout, and can hear the therapist's every word.
Hypnotherapy is used in this way to help a person to deal with unwanted habit patterns such as Smoking (see below), Overeating, Blushing, Nail-biting, Exam Nerves, Insomnia and Bedwetting, to mention just a few. It also affords a way of relieving habitual tension and discomfort, worry and mild illogical fears. By reinforcing and directing our creativity and imagination, hypnosis can develop our self-image, building confidence and competence, and enabling us to enhance our own natural self-healing processes. In conjunction with Counselling, relaxation techniques and
Stress or Anger Management, it can help to restore pleasure, health and efficiency to an overstressed lifestyle, at home and at work. However, where the psychological or psychosomatic problem is attributable to unresolved conflicts or difficulties in the past, where there is anxiety, panic attacks, depression, obsessive or compulsive behaviour, or physical problems which appear to have no organic cause, then simple suggestion techniques in hypnosis, although useful in providing temporary relief, do not in themselves provide a permanent resolution of the difficulty. In such cases, using NLP, EMDR and Hypno-Analysis provides safe, reliable ways of achieving the desired result.
NLP, EMDR & Hypno-AnalysisNLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) is a recently developed system for change, based on the scientific study of the mechanisms of human experience. Through NLP, and by questioning the inner mind, we can identify the inner or outward behaviours and beliefs that need to be altered to reach a desired outcome and make the necessary changes using very precise, very safe techniques.
EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is an eyes-open alternative to hypnosis, using a natural process which occurs in dreams to lay persistent unhappy memories gently to rest, free of their former burden of pain.
Hypno-Analysis is a brief, focussed analysis in hypnosis, enabling the underlying causes of a person's problem to be brought progressively into consciousness so that they may be appropriately resolved with the help and support of the therapist.
Thus, with fresh insight and renewed optimism, freed from the restraints and traumas of the past, the patient can readily move forward into a new, improved, quality of life.

My Comprehensive Anti-Smoking Treatment
"Beat the Craving, Be Nicotine-Free"
Different people smoke for different reasons.
I have been treating smokers with a high degree of success for more than 20 years, and am convinced the reason other treatments so often fail is that they don't take into account individual needs.
Most smokers are habit smokers. Any behaviour that we repeat enough times will eventually become more or less automatic - a Habit. Or they smoke for mainly social reasons.
Some smokers are able to give up without help, but many feel trapped by Nicotine dependency, while others smoke to help them cope with anxiety, frustration, boredom or stress.
For treatment to be successful, we need to find out what causes the person to smoke, and treat the cause . I do this using special techniques of hypnotherapy and NLP to question the inner mind and then to bring about the desired outcome. Nicotine dependency is dealt with as an integral part of the treatment.
For Habit/Social Smokers (about 85 percent of cases) one extended session (lasting about one-and-a-half hours) should ensure success. After that, usually a person will neither want nor need to smoke.
Where, however, smoking is driven by stress or strong emotion, more work may be needed to resolve the underlying causes of the emotion, as otherwise the person may turn to a substitute for cigarettes (which is a common reason why many former smokers gain weight).
Nearly all smokers who want to become Non-Smokers can be helped with Hypnotherapy and NLP. In my opinion, this method is the most comprehensive and the best. However, for those who would prefer a tried and tested alternative, the Clinic also offers Anti-Smoking Acupuncture. PETER M. J. WESSON,
